Details

We completed a comprehensive programme of refurbishment works at The Crescent for Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The project formed part of the council’s commitment to improving essential community facilities and ensuring their long-term suitability for modern use.

The building required a full internal and external upgrade to support a refreshed layout, enhanced accessibility and improved day-to-day functionality. Our task was to deliver a carefully managed refurbishment that modernised the building while retaining its integrity and purpose for local services.

Works covered structural alterations, interior reconfiguration, sanitary upgrades, mechanical and electrical improvements and a wide range of external site enhancements, including a new access route and play area.

The Brief

Stoke-on-Trent City Council appointed us to carry out a full refurbishment of the existing building. The objectives were:

  • To reconfigure the internal layout through demolition, structural adjustments and the formation of new openings.
  • To introduce new partitions, doors, finishes and sanitary facilities tailored to the building’s updated use.
To upgrade mechanical and electrical systems for compliance, efficiency and long-term reliability.
  • To deliver external works including drainage alterations, access improvements and the creation of new outdoor spaces.

The brief required a coordinated programme that balanced structural works, technical installations and high-quality interior finishes, delivered safely within a live operational environment.

Our Approach

A Clear Path to Refurbishment

We began with a detailed survey and review of the existing structure, ensuring all planned modifications were feasible and aligned with the council’s expectations. Our team mapped out phased works to minimise disruption.

Interior alterations involved the removal of walls, doors and existing floor finishes. New openings were formed to suit the revised layout, with redundant openings filled and finished to a consistent standard.

Quality Through Skilled Delivery

New stud partitions, internal doors, ironmongery and suspended ceilings were installed to create a clean, modern internal environment. Decoration was completed across all surfaces, complemented by the installation of new vinyl and carpet tile flooring.

Sanitary areas were fully renewed with new cubicles, IPS panels, vanity units and sanitaryware. M&E teams carried out required upgrades and modifications, ensuring that all systems aligned seamlessly with the new configuration.

Enhancing the External Environment

The project extended beyond the building itself. We delivered alterations to the existing drainage system to accommodate the refreshed layout.

External siteworks included the construction of a new access road, updated paving, a new soft play area and the installation of fencing, including automated gate entry. These improvements ensured the external environment matched the quality and functionality of the internal refurbishment.

Testimonial:

Nothing was too much trouble, time was given to ensure I was fully informed of what was happening and when. The approachability and courtesy of all working on the project was second-to-none. I very much felt I had a point of contact and an open dialogue throughout all aspects of the project and I am delighted with the end result. Not only would I use M2 again, I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for an efficient, reliable contractor with significant attention to detail!
