Details

M2 Construction was appointed to deliver the expansion and refurbishment of the hall kitchen at St Francis Church, creating a modern commercial-grade facility capable of supporting the church’s growing programme of community events, gatherings, and catering activities. The project required extensive structural alterations alongside mechanical and electrical upgrades, all within a live environment where the church hall remained operational throughout the construction programme.

The Brief

The existing kitchen no longer met the requirements of the church and its wider community. The brief was to expand and modernise the facility, creating a larger, more practical commercial kitchen while improving the surrounding infrastructure to meet current standards.

A key requirement was ensuring disruption to church activities was kept to an absolute minimum. Careful planning, phased works, and clear communication with stakeholders were essential to maintaining day-to-day operations while delivering a high-quality refurbishment.

Scope of Works

The project involved a comprehensive programme of construction and refurbishment works to transform the existing kitchen into a fully functional commercial facility. Structural alterations were undertaken to accommodate the expanded layout, with new fire-rated partitions installed to improve safety, compartmentation, and compliance with current building regulations.

Alongside the structural works, the mechanical and electrical services were upgraded throughout the space to support the increased demands of a modern commercial kitchen. This included new power supplies, lighting, ventilation and associated infrastructure, ensuring the facility was equipped for long-term performance and reliability.

The new commercial kitchen was then installed, incorporating professional-grade catering equipment, durable hygienic finishes, and a practical layout designed to maximise efficiency for volunteers and staff using the space. Every stage of the project was carefully coordinated to maintain access to the church hall wherever possible, allowing activities and community events to continue safely while construction progressed.

By combining careful planning with proactive communication, M2 Construction successfully delivered a complex refurbishment programme with minimal disruption, while maintaining the high standards of workmanship expected throughout the project.

The Outcome

The completed kitchen has significantly enhanced the facilities available at St Francis Church, providing a modern commercial space that supports a wide range of community activities, events, and catering requirements.

Despite the complexity of undertaking structural alterations within an occupied building, the project was delivered to an exceptional standard through meticulous project management, technical expertise, and close collaboration with the client.

The success of the project is reflected in the positive feedback received from St Francis Church, who praised our professionalism, communication, and quality of workmanship throughout the build.

Client Feedback

“Throughout the construction phase we were most impressed by Russell Bibbey’s management of the work on site. In particular his ability to problem solve in a quite complex project situation, communicate clearly in a way that allowed us, as non-experts, to understand, and ensure all the fine detail was applied resulting in an excellent standard of finish throughout. He was always courteous and accommodating of our requests. In addition, the quality of work delivered by your own tradesmen and subcontractors is of excellent quality, resulting in an impressive kitchen facility.”
